What is a Podcast?
Wikipedia defines Podcasting as "the method of distributing multimedia files, such as audio or video programs, over the Internet using syndication feeds, for playback on mobile devices and personal computers."
That's a wordy way of saying that anyone who wants to can create audio or video files about anything they're interested in, for any reason they like. Podcasts are popular because of their portability. You can listen at your desk, on your home computer, or you can put the file on your portable MP3 player (the best known is the iPod) and take it with you wherever you go. Podcast can be daily, weekly, or semi-monthly. They can cover politics, religion, books or celebrities. They are whatever the creator wants them to be and the audience is interested in.
For us, that means a monthly radio-like show covering everything that's going on at Truly Moving Pictures and Heartland Film Festival. You can expect to hear a variety of features on our podcast, including filmmaker interviews, upcoming Truly Moving Picture Award Winners and Festival highlights. We might even ask for your participation in a quiz or your feedback on Truly Moving Pictures you've seen.
The Heartland Truly Moving Pictures Podcast is hosted by Lisa Trifone, the Web Administrator at Heartland. If you've got questions or suggestions about podcasting, you can contact Lisa at info@heartlandfilmfestival.org.
