As you may recall, in September we moved into our new digs in fabulous Fountain Square. We’ve been enjoying the many great dining options, people watching on the Cultural Trail and getting to know our friendly and creative neighbors. Located in the Murphy Art Center we have the honor of being surrounded by brilliant artists in a buzzing environment anchored by my personal favorite night out in Indianapolis–First Fridays. We are excited to announce that Friday, February 3, will be our first involvement in the city’s monthly art tour!
We will be hanging out in our ground floor space from 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm. We’ll have beer from Upland Brewing Company to go along with multiple screenings of the 2011 Heartland Film Festival Award-winning short The First Anders. This is a great opportunity to welcome the arts community, neighborhood and city into our new home, and we look forward to celebrating with friends, old and new.
If you have never been to a First Friday, you are in for a real treat. You should expect a night full of wonderful art, people, conversation, food and drink at galleries and studios all around the city. It is a celebration of the best this city has to offer, and the timing could not be better. With thousands of visitors in town for the Big Game and Fountain Square as one of the Super Celebration Sites, it’s sure to be one exciting night. We hope to see you there!
Katie Pellerin, Director of Truly Moving Picture Awards
We’re getting close to the Heartland Premiere of Castle Rock Entertainment and Warner Bros. Pictures’ upcoming major motion picture Flipped on Monday, August 2, at Hilbert Circle Theatre in downtown Indianapolis! Director, writer and producer Rob Reiner, is scheduled to attend the event along with members of the film’s cast including Anthony Edwards, John Mahoney and Penelope Ann Miller! This is a huge day in Heartland history and I strongly encourage you to take part!
Flipped is the next addition to Reiner’s outstanding line-up of incredible films such as Stand by Me, When Harry Met Sally, A Few Good Men and The Bucket List. As an actor, you probably know Reiner for his work in such films as Sleepless in Seattle and his Emmy Award-winning role in the 70s sitcom All in the Family (Yes, that’s right. Meathead). Flipped will mark his sixth Truly Moving Picture Award of all time. Mighty impressive.
Check out the trailer below. If you’re a big fan (like myself) of Wonder Years, Now and Then and of course Stand By Me.. this will be another film you add to your favorite movie list on Facebook.
Not only are we overjoyed and deeply honored to have Rob Reiner here in Indianapolis and to host the Heartland premiere of his latest film, but incredibly excited our local folks in the “Heartland” will have a jump on other filmgoers in America to view this movie before it opens in theaters around the country! If you’re in the Heartland, don’t miss this opportunity to have bragging rights on Twitter.
Tickets are $25 and include a Q&A session with Reiner and members of the cast, as well as a dessert reception immediately following the screening. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the screening beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased here or by calling the Hilbert Circle Theatre Box Office at 317.639.4300 or 800.366.8457 (outside Central Indiana).
If you can’t make it to the Premiere at the Hilbert, please join us on the red carpet around 6 p.m. or on Monument Circle at 11 a.m. as Rob Reiner along with dignitaries from the state of Indiana will take part in an exciting announcement about the future of Heartland Truly Moving Pictures. For those of you that have been around forever, this will be a big day and we would greatly appreciate your support of Heartland by showing up on the steps. If you’re new to Heartland, this will be a great opportunity for you learn more about what we do and how you can make an impact.
One last thing! If you’re interested in getting free tickets to the event (I’m assuming if you’ve read this much, you are) follow us on Twitter for a give-a-way very, very soon!
Opening in limited release on August 6 and nationwide on August 27, Flipped is a coming-of-age romantic comedy that follows a young couple from grade school to junior high, through triumph and disaster, family drama and first love, as they make the discoveries that will define who they are and who they are to each other. Flipped is directed by Reiner from a screenplay he co-wrote with Andrew Scheinman, based on the novel by Wendelin Van Draanen. Reiner also produced the film with Alan Greisman. This film has been rated PG for language and some thematic material.
On one of the first gorgeous days of May, Heartland set up shop at Indy’s Hometown Expo, the annual event on Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis. Organized by the Convention and Visitor’s Association, the mid-day event attracts all kinds of local businesses, attractions and organizations (our booth was right next to Connor Prairie‘s!).
Hundreds of people came out to learn about Heartland for the first time or catch up on what we’ve been up to this year. Two lucky visitors entered our Truly Moving Picture trivia game and won a DVD set of Award winners and an All-Festival Pass for this year’s screenings. Don’t you wish you’d stopped by?!
Vision Racing driver Ed Carpenter also hung out at the Heartland booth signing autographs next to his car. Vision Racing has been a sponsor and supporter of Heartland for years, and their presence only boosted the excitement already buzzing around the booth.
