Festival Award Winner Picks Up BAFTA Nom!

We always get excited when nominations are announced to see if any Heartland-honored films from the past year are recognized. We get especially jazzed when it’s a Festival film! This morning as we scoured the BAFTA nominations, we were so excited to see Heartland Film Festival Award winning short, Abuelas, nominated for Short Animations! We send lots of love to director and friend Afarin Eghbal!

Also recognized with nominations was Truly Moving Picture Award winner, The Help, with fives noms including Best Film and Octavia Spencer for Best Supporting Actress. She just scored the Golden Globe this past weekend for the same role so we’ll see if her momentum keeps going. Fellow Golden Globe winner Christopher Plummer was honored with a Best Supporting Actor nomination for his work in TMPA winner, Beginners.

We wish all nominees best of luck!

Heartland Films nominated for Independent Spirit Awards!

Beginners - Nominated for Best Feature, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Male Supporting Actor

It’s that time of year again. Awards season! We kick things off today with the Film Independent Spirit Awards.

“The Film Independent Spirit Awards recognize the finest artistic achievements across the broad spectrum of independent filmmaking—from emerging talent working on a shoestring budget to established auteurs,” said Film Independent Senior Director Sean Mc Manus.  “The 2012 nominees tell their stories in such an authentic way and reflect the inclusive nature of the independent filmmaking community.  We are delighted to support them and expand the audience for their work.”

Both Truly Moving Picture Award winners and Heartland Film Festival films felt the love today. Beginners received a total of four nominations including Best Feature and Best Director. The TMPA winner was also nominated for Best Screenplay alongside fellow award winner Win Win. 2011 HFF Official Selection The Redemption of General Butt Naked has been nominated for Best Documentary.

Special congrats to Heather Courtney, director of the 2011 Crystal Heart Award winner, Where Soliders Come From for her nomination for the Truer Than Fiction award!
