2013 Heartland Film Festival – $50k Grand Prize Winner for Best Narrative Feature

Described by Indiewire as a “true discovery and a revelation,” Daniel Patrick Carbone’s debut feature, Hide Your Smiling Faces, took home top prize at the 2013 Heartland Film Festival.

Set over the course of one long New Jersey summer, the film delivers a dreamlike portrait of adolescence told through the eyes of two brothers—nine-year-old Tommy and 14-year-old Eric. The film centers on their struggle to understand the mysterious death of one of Tommy’s friends and to deal with their own impending adulthood and mortality.
