Scriptwriting with Andie Redwine

“Do not cast the movie before you write the story.”

“You must write your first draft with your heart. You rewrite with your head…”

“Write as quickly as possible. Edit little. You may discover a treasure. Let your characters talk to you.”

Andie Redwine

We are fortunate to have a wealth of amazing talent connected to us here at Heartland. Over the past 20 years we have amassed wonderful relationships with extraordinary people who have skills and expertise in every discipline within filmmaking.

One of those extraordinary people is Andie Redwine, writer of the 2010 Heartland Film Festival Official Selection, Paradise Recovered. Andie taught Heartland’s latest Film and Acting Workshop at the IUPUI Campus Center, Scriptwriting with Andie Redwine.

As President and CEO Jeff Sparks introduced Redwine before the workshop, he pointed out that studies show a glass of red wine can be good for the heart, and the same is true for Andie Redwine. A dose of her presence is good for you – and your scriptwriting. Using clips from other 2010 Heartland Film Festival films, Andie led the audience through the rules of scriptwriting. Sharing quotes and insight from other filmmakers, Andie brought a wide assortment of information and inspiration to the table, offering something for everyone.

With the Heartland Twitter feed in constant motion throughout the workshop, aspiring scriptwriters across the globe were able to take part in this thoroughly enjoyable workshop as well.  Not only was our Twitter feed going at full speed, but the cameras were on and rolling. Stay tuned for the video of this amazing workshop in our Institute Archives in the very near future. It’s an experience not to be missed!
