UPDATE (8.1.2011): Construction is not complete on our new office and we’re postponing our open house previously scheduled for August 5. We’ll have an update soon with more details including the rescheduled date!
I am so excited to announce Heartland Truly Moving Pictures has found a new home in the Murphy Art Center located on Virginia Avenue in Fountain Square in Indianapolis. We’ve evolved significantly throughout the past 20 years, and this move symbolizes the next phase in Heartland’s history. The Murphy is the heart of the arts scene in Fountain Square and as a non-profit arts organization that celebrates the transformative power of film, we feel this location is a perfect fit for us. We are excited to be a part of this growing important urban center. The staff and I look forward to moving in to our new home on July 1.
Being on the Cultural Trail is another exciting element. Our office is right there and we plan to take full advantage of that – including a real presence on First Fridays. Our first scheduled First Friday activity will be an open house on August 5 where we’ll showcase our new office space and introduce the community to our new public screening room.
There is a fascinating coincidence between The Murphy and Heartland. The building was originally the Granada Theatre, built in 1928 by Universal Studios. The entrance to our new office space was the entrance to the theatre and we have photos of the old marquee that was above the entrance. Who knows? We might look to recreate it someday.
On a personal note – another interesting coincidence. The last performance in the Granada Theatre was Sunday, March 11, 1951 – the day I was born just down the road at Methodist Hospital. It’s A SIGN!
Please do plan to come and visit us when you are in the neighborhood.
