After a violent storm, young Alex Ramsey is shipwrecked on a deserted island. All of his fellow passengers have perished, save one: a beautiful Arabian horse with whom Alex bonded while still aboard the ship. Now the two friends must learn to survive in their frightening -- albeit beautiful -- island surroundings.

Before long, Alex and his companion are rescued. They return to Alex's small hometown, but everything is changed. Alex handles the loss of his father with help from his "backyard" stallion. Eventually, Alex meets Henry Dailey, a retired horse trainer, who sees potential in both Alex and his horse. With Henry's help, Alex begins training with his horse for the race of a lifetime.

A film of sweeping scope and artistry, The Black Stallion is a powerful adaptation of the classic Walter Farley novel. Alex's journey is both powerfully moving and visually exciting, as he and his great stallion struggle to survive, adjust, and finally triumph over adversity.
